This page explains what C-O-U-R-S-E-S.com keeps about you, why, and who else handles it.
What we keep
- Your account: name, email and a scrambled (hashed) form of your password. We never see or store the password itself.
- What you buy and when. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- Your learning: your level, progress, answers to checks and quizzes, notes, flashcard reviews, certificates, and your conversations with the tutor.
- For Learn Anything: what you asked to learn and any files or links you attached. Those stay private to your course.
- Visits to course pages, counted with an anonymous cookie, so we can see which pages work. It doesn’t identify you.
How AI is involved
Lessons, quizzes, the tutor and Learn Anything courses are written with the help of AI services we contract with. When you ask the tutor something or request a course, that text (and any material you attached) is sent to one of these services to write the reply; we’ll tell you which ones if you ask. We don’t send your name, email or payment details with it.
Voice
When you speak to the tutor, your voice is turned into text inside your own browser; the recording isn’t uploaded. Read aloud turns the text you choose into speech on our servers, and we keep the audio so the same passage plays faster next time.
Cookies and storage
- A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in.
- An anonymous visitor cookie for counting course-page visits.
- Settings in your browser’s storage, such as your reading speed and voice.
We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who else handles your data
- Stripe, for payments, receipts and managing subscriptions.
- The AI providers above, for writing lessons and tutor replies.
- Our email provider, to send password links and course emails.
- Our hosting provider, which runs the site and stores its database.
How long we keep it, and your choices
We keep your account and learning record while you have an account, so your progress and certificates stay available. You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or for your account to be closed and your data removed. Records of purchases are kept as long as the law requires.
Children
The site isn’t meant for children under 16, and we don’t knowingly keep their data.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we’ll say so on the site, and by email for changes that affect what we do with your data.
